Religion should be outlawed

Imagine a world where you could be sentenced to death based on your different sexuality because it goes against someone’s so-called god or being denied an education as a women because someone’s book says that you are lesser than a man or having to lose your life because you said something that slightly challenges what someone believes in. This isn’t a future dystopia but is rather the harsh reality that we live in all thanks to religion. Religion of which is defined as the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. Over 84% of the world’s population associates themselves with a religion. With something that has assisted in the evolution of the human race but in an technologically advanced society that we live in today, religion seems to be holding us back ethically as more and more people are becoming disillusioned with it’s immoral teachings of homophobia, sexism and the constant affirmation that “you are least significant than god” that is causing war due to a book that was written millennia ago. My question is should religion be outlawed.

Hitler killed 6 million Jews…An entire group of people discriminated against…Why? Because of what they believed in. If you were a jew in late 1930’s Germany you were sent off to a concentration camp to be executed because you believed in a different magical being than Hitler. Another more recent example is the treat to modern society, ISIS, has been the cause of terrorist attacks such as the Manchester bombings where 22 people, most of whom were children, were killed after an Ariana Grande concert; The Orlando nightclub tragedy where a gunman opened fire into a gay club leaving 49 people dead. Why? Because the drive that religion has on ISIS is that all non-believers of their god is to be executed without mercy. Now what’s a common trend with all of these examples? Religion. Religion is a common factor to all of these…Religion is getting people killed and my point is is that religion is causing conflict and pure hatred between us as a race just because people don’t have the same values as they have been brought up to believe. It’s absolutely absurd

A personal experience that I’ve had with religion was that growing up I went to a school where predominantly a lot of people believed in a higher being. I had to say that I believed in god as I was in fear of being shunned by my peers because I didn’t quote-on-quote “believe in their god”. Being the amazing investigator I am, I asked these kids why they believed in a god. The responses I got were, let’s just say mediocre, but what did I expect from kids that are only 10 years old, they range from “because there has to be a god” and “because I found 20 dollars, all thanks to god” but there was one response that I heard more than once…it was “because my family said so”…I asked them why and some would say “my mum will give me the bash if I don’t”. These kids are being forced to believe a delusion all because the authority that they look up to say so. It’s a sad cycle to think about as once a child is growing up in an environment where they are being told that this is what to believe and everything else is a lie which is hard to break out of once it has been enforced on you. Fear is being used to manipulate people into believing in a religion. The Middle East is ridden with countries where you have to, by law, believe in a higher power and to name one for example would be Saudi Arabia where simply even questioning their religion of Islam could get you charged for apostasy and sent of to be executed. It restricts the human right to the freedom of thought and freedom of speech; you should not have to die because you think differently to what the Qur’an says because at the end of the day, who write the bible?

Religion has once served its purpose and in my opinion is no good in today’s civilisation as it’s regressive ideologies promotes ideas that in this day and age for the fight for gender equality and the on-going debate on the legalisation of gay marriage

With something that has assisted in the evolution of the human race but in an technologically advanced society that we live in today, religion seems to be holding us back ethically as more and more people are becoming disillusioned with it’s immoral teachings of homophobia, sexism and the constant affirmation that “you are least significant than my god that I believe in” that is causing war due to a few books that was written millennia ago. My question is should religion be outlawed.

Hitler killed 6 million Jews…An entire group of people discriminated against…Why? Because of what they believed in. If you were a jew in late 1930’s Germany you were sent off to a concentration camp to be executed because you believed in a different magical being than Hitler. Another more recent example is the treat to modern society, ISIS, has been the cause of terrorist attacks such as the Manchester bombings where 22 people, most of whom were children, were killed after an Ariana Grande concert;

The Orlando nightclub tragedy where a gunman opened fire into a gay club leaving 49 people dead. Why? Because the drive that religion has on ISIS is causing them to think that all non-believers of their god is to be executed without mercy. Now what’s a common trend with all of these examples? Religion. Religion is a common factor to all of these…Religion is getting people killed and my point is is that religion is causing conflict and pure hatred between us as a race just because people don’t have the same values as they have been brought up to believe.

It’s absolutely absurd. Religion is promoting discrimination against specific groups of people. Israel is being targeted by its neighbouring countries as a menace and has been at a constant war with the Palenstines for over 100 years where they have been wanting peace for the duration of this time because they believe that everyone has the right to think believe in whatever they want to whereas the Palenstines believe that their god is the only one and if Israel were to declare that they have had enough of the conflict, they will be met with a mass genocide.

This is a conflict caused by a group of people not agreeing with someone else’s way of life. The only reason why gay marriage is still even an argument is because apparently it’s unnatural and it will displease god. This backwards thinking is making homosexuality illegal in over 76 countries because they have been told by the bible that “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”

Everybody has the right to believe what they want but their views should not have to enforced onto you. It restricts the human right to the freedom of thought and freedom of speech; you should not have to die because you think differently to what the Qur’an says because at the end of the day, who wrote the bible?

Religion has once served its purpose and in my opinion is no good in today’s civilisation as it’s regressive ideologies promotes conflict between people because their imaginary being is better than someone else’s and discrimination that in this day and age for the fight for gender equality and the on-going debate on the legalisation of gay marriage, religion is holding us back which is why I believe religion should be outlawed.
